Impressionism is a pictorial movement born from the association of artists from the second half of the nineteenth century living in France. Strongly criticized at its beginnings, this movement manifests itself in particular from 1874 to 1886 by public exhibitions in Paris, and marked the rupture of modern art with academic painting. This pictorial movement is mainly characterized by small paintings, visible brush strokes, open composition, the use of unusual viewing angles, a tendency to note fleeting impressions, the mobility of climatic and light phenomena, rather that the stable and conceptual aspect of things, and to transfer them directly to the canvas. Impressionism had a great influence on the art of that time, painting of course, but also the visual arts.
